The Riddle of The Prosody
The basic narrative relies on pentameter. (In music, that’s five beats; but some lines of rhythmic poetry might imply a natural pause beat that follows them. It can be a sort of weighted breath you take automatically. At other times, you’ll feel enjambment, where the syntax and rhythm of a line tells you: don’t stop: go straight to the next line.
The three main characters have idiosyncratic speech patterns. So in dialogue you’ll find Faustina speaks in trimeter (in musical terms, three beats), while Lily Thayne and Altgrat both use dimeter (two beats), often rounded off by (a single beat:) a bob line.
The apocopated rhyme scheme is a nonce form in which the weighted syllable at the line end will rhyme with a weighted syllable somewhere within 8 lines’ proximity, except in the case of dialogue, where the lines are shorter. In that case, the rhymed syllable may be separated by a greater number of lines, though likely as not, not by more words.
Poetic license has been used regarding syllabification, so that multisyllabic words might not be treated according to strict dictionary divisions: thus “moment” might at one moment be divided “MO-ment,” but “MOME-ent” at another.
The work’s internal proxies tell how come, at times, it might be speaking prose.
